Yiyi Mendoza 'The Symbols of Life Surround You', Ceramics, Part 1,2,3 Lot #4

I am interested in the culture and ancestry of craft. Objects are fundamental to the meaning and execution of rituals. My work explores a sacredness in objects that is open, accessible, and joyful. I believe in the unseen force or power inherent in all things, plants, animals, and beings; an energy that can be transferred, received, and given. This is an exchange inherent in all art-making and therefore, I consider it a responsibility to be mindful of and a therapy to be shared with all.
Yiyi Mendoza is both an artist and herbalist, simultaneously working in art and wellness spaces. She is one of the co-founders of Yesfolk Tonics: a family-run brewery specializing in fermented tonic beverages like kombucha. Her recent work has been increasingly merging her two disciplines into one. Her art practice is mostly concentrated in ceramics but extends into styling, art direction, and illustration. With a growing interest in impactful community work, she is making a transition into fulfilling a more curatorial and facilitator role within the art community, focusing on uplifting and showcasing BIPOC voices and initiatives.
