The 2 casino chips are $25 Match Play chips. These no cash value chips are from the Golden Gate Hotel and Casino, 1 Freemont Street Las Vegas Nevada. The 2015 SSS Publishing price guide assesses a retail value of $75 to $99 for each chip.
The Golden Gate sits on land that was originally purchased in the 1905 land auction for $1,750. Originally the hotel was named Hotel Nevada. Room and Board at the original hotel was $1 per day. In 1907 Las Vegas’ first telephone was installed in the hotel. Ring 1 please. In 1910 gambling was outlawed in Nevada. Gambling was re-legalized in Nevada in 1931. The hotel was renamed Sal Sagev (Las Vegas backwards). In 1955 the property became the Golden Gate. In 1959 the Golden Gate introduced Las Vegas to the shrimp cocktail selling its 25 millionth shrimp cocktail in 1991. In 1964 the “Rat Pack” Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. would drink and play at the Golden Gate. Visit their lobby while in Vegas to explore some of the artifacts from the property’s historic past.
