George Kell played in Major League Baseball as a third baseman from 1943 to 1957, most prominently as a member of the Detroit Tigers where, he became a perennial All-Star, and won the AL batting title in 1949. 

A ten-time All-Star, Kell hit .300 or higher in nine seasons, producing a career batting average of .306. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1983.
