Provenance: Aragon Subastas, Zaragoza, Spain. José Martorell Puigdomènech was a renowned painter of the first half of the 20th century. He belonged to a family of artists from Cervera, a city about 50 miles northwest of Barcelona. His father, Miquel Martorell, was a theatre director. Martorell painted murals in Cervera's most affluent houses and devotional items for churches. Some of his paintings are displayed in the Sanctuary of San Ramón.
Auction Presence: Frequently appears in Spanish auction houses (Morton, Ansorena, Castellana, Potomack, Invaluable) with prices ranging from a few hundred to several thousand dollars. Record sale price was $3,887.00 in 2022.
