Randy L. Purcell Original Harlinsdale Barn Encaustic Painting Lot #99

  • Harlinsdale%20resized
  • Barn3
  • Barn2
  • Barn5

Randy L. Purcell’s artwork is unique, both in process and style. While some encaustic artists employ beeswax as a medium, Randy’s use of barnwood as a substrate and his refined process of coloration is truly his own. He has perfected the art of ink transfer from the pages of magazines, from which he finds the ideal colors and creates a nuanced mosaic to apply to the burned-in beeswax.

Friends of Franklin Parks President Jamey Parker rescued these boards from the Main Barn at Harlinsdale years ago, with a vision of doing something special with them when the time was right. As the 10th anniversary approached, Jamey called on Randy to photograph the Barn and the Hayes House and create one-of-a-kind pieces to commemorate the organization’s success in helping to preserve and restore these historic structures.

Randy used his photographs to create a scalable template for the large-format pieces before adding the negative relief, color and depth that bring the buildings to life.

The result is a piece of Harlinsdale unlike anything else that exists, and we are forever grateful to Randy for his donation of these masterpieces.
