Artist Wendy Niziol, along with her partner Ray Phillips, are the founders of the Powder
Hounds Art Auction. Wendy is retired from a career in architectural design and freelance
photography. She has also taught numerous fine art classes, photoshop and autoCAD
at the college level, over the years.
Wendy retired from her job as VP at HOK (a global architectural firm) in 2016 and
moved from Houston, Texas to Vallecito, Colorado with Ray and their three dogs. They
have six adult children and six grandchildren who visit regularly. Living in the mountains
was a big change from the urban frenzy she was used to but it has also has led to a
healthier, more peaceful lifestyle. She enjoys cooking and gardening as well as skiing,
biking and hiking the San Juan National Forest, with the dogs of course!
This is the 5th anniversary of Powder Hounds and Wendy decided to challenge herself
once again to create something unique for this year’s auction. “Message in a Bottle”
was meant to ponder the mystery of the vast underwater world. Messages in bottles
have been used to send distress messages, as memorial tributes, and to send
deceased loved ones' ashes on a final journey. Wendy’s message is to take care of our
precious resources before it’s too late.
