Vocal Jazz Master Class with Taylor Young Lot #12

These coaching sessions focus on enhancing the understanding the art of vocal performance. This includes but is not limited to song interpretation, personalizing music through connection, expression and delivery. Also include ear training methods to improve overall understanding of harmony, tonal structures, and chord progressions, with the objective of developing the musicianship of the vocalist. Each session is carefully crafted to meet the overall desires of the student.
A Cleveland native, Taylor is a vocalist, arranger, and composer. She is a double HBCU alumna, graduating Magnum Cum Laude from Central State University with a bachelor’s degree in jazz studies and obtained her master’s degree in jazz vocal performance from Howard University. Taylor is also a former member of Afro Blue, Howard University’s premier Jazz Vocal Ensemble, most known for their appearance on NBC’s “The Sing Off”. In addition to this, Taylor performs with professional music organizations within the DC area, such as the Washington Douglass Choral led by Nolan Williams and Scott Tucker and the Washington Women’s Jazz Festival founded by Amy K. Bormet. Taylor also is very active as a music educator as she served as a Howard University Professor in the Jazz Voice department and currently the jazz vocal instructor for the Washington Jazz Arts Institute, founded by Davey Yarborough. In addition to this, Taylor is a private piano and voice teacher and on the music faculty at Duke Ellington, serving as a theory instructor, and the Director of both the highly acclaimed jazz voice ensemble – The MellowTones, and the Voices in Motion Show Choir.
